THE PINK LENS IS CLOSING

After a decade of covering every LGBT+ cinema release in the UK, it is time for The Pink Lens to close its doors. From Carol to Moonlight, Call Me By Your Name to Love Simon, the last decade has seen some of the biggest and best Queer movies ever made. However, the cinema landscape has changed a lot recently, as GLAAD keeps reporting, with LGBT+ representation on screen rapidly decreasing over the last few years. Just like any political trend, the global shift toward conservatism is definitely being reflected in the movies.

The Pink Lens is a one-man-band, run by me – Ben Turner. Personally, I’ve had a lot of changes too. I started this site as a 30 year-old film fanatic; unemployed, single and living in my friend’s box room in the city. I’m about turn 40 and I’m married, in a successful career and I’ve relocated to the countryside too. The numerous hours that the site demands of me each week has become increasingly difficult to fulfil, so I feel it is better to finish now instead of letting it just decline. Â
Â
I’ve loved all the opportunities that The Pink Lens has created for me, the people I’ve met and the breadth of movies I’ve seen. I’ll still be watching all the new releases, but it’s time to enjoy them just as an audience, not as a critic. Thank you for all your support over the years and I hope that my reviews and insight have been a useful tool in separating the wheat from the chaff with Queer cinema releases.

If you’d like to still follow me you can on Instagram via @bendigedig85 and my YouTube travel channel I share with my husband, 15 Degrees North (it would really help us out to gain some more subscribers!). Thanks again for all your engagement and keep supporting LGBT+ cinema!
Over and out!
